War No More – Poster Poem by Peter Bankov
Millions of Russians died during World War 2. “War No More” is an artistic tribute to the 75th anniversary of Victory Day, which marks the capitulation of Nazi Germany. The poster series features illustrated excerpts inscribed by the artist and separately painted with a hand-crafted typeface, giving the poems a strong individual character. Although the typeface varies, the typography is easy to read. The illustrations are fresco-style portraits painted with gouache mixed with egg yolk and are inspired by both wartime poems and the artist’s childhood memories of veterans who lived in his neighbourhood.
