Stop-Motion Animation
Twine
A puppet on strings embodies the suffering of women in society in the stop-motion animation film “Twine”. The setting is based on Chinese puppet theatre, the epitome of a traditional representation of roles. After the main character has been completely buried by black strings, she plucks up the courage to change the negative labels which have literally been stuck onto her in the form of small, grey pieces of paper into something light and positive. The film relies heavily on the use of perspective, as well as on light and darkness to portray patriarchal suppression.
