Brand Design
The Dark Sky Project
In 2012, the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve was launched and light pollution became strictly controlled within the area covered by the reserve. Part of the project involved branding this new tourist attraction in New Zealand. The name “The Dark Sky Project” epitomised the ongoing pursuit and cause-driven aspect of the entity. The brand design centred on a core mark that represented the Southern Cross, the most dominant constellation in the southern sky, along with a word grid that enabled the assembly of word-based constellations to create messaging, statements and names that could be used across all visitor touchpoints.
