Typeface
Jeff Koons
This typeface was created to promote a Jeff Koons retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. It is inspired by the American artist’s playful way of dealing with popular culture. The typography centres on his gigantic installations in form of twisted balloons cast in stainless steel. The balloon shape is reflected by letters that look inflated and seem to stick to one another. Gaudy colours increase the visibility of the type and mirror Koons’s passion for extremes. To a certain extent, the type renounces legibility. Instead, like the artist’s oeuvre, it embodies unrestricted artistic freedom.
