Poet desires for time to be seen as more meaningful through the warmth and respect given to the act of writing and drawing. It is a smart pen with a charging device that reimagines and modernises the moment in time when the poet Yun Dong-joo wrote a poem. Aside from providing an excellent user experience, the Poet smart pen evokes memories and emotions associated with traditional fountain pens to create a novel sensory experience. Poet is closely inspired by Yun’s personal sensibilities, which are revealed through his representative works on everyday life, hardships, lonely times, and other sentimental encounters. They form prominent motifs in the design of the smart pen and charger set. Evoking the gentleness that often accompanies Yun’s poems, the shape of the pen nib follows a soft curvature that can also be seen on the pen’s body. The smart pen and “ink bottle” charger work together to create a complete emotional journey. When the smart fountain pen needs to be recharged, the user simply inserts the tip of the pen into the “ink bottle” — an act reminiscent of using a traditional fountain pen that truly evokes the poetic experience of writing. The LED indicator at one end of the pen displays the battery life in gradation, similar to how a fountain pen displays the amount of ink left. Furthermore, a bevelled section on the ink bottle charger is magnetised so that the pen’s lid can be neatly attached when the pen is in use, achieving the goal of both function and form.
