Scars of Democracy

The online gallery “Scars of Democracy” draws attention to the threat to artists’ freedom of expression. It shows a courageous look at eight political leaders who freely express their decisions – interpreted as tattoos, symbolising the irrevocable nature of political actions. The finely illustrated symbols are imprinted on the bodies of the politicians and, like the message, get under the skin. Each motif, based on large-scale watercolour portraits on mould-made paper from India, is additionally mirrored by hand-picked content snippets from a wide range of global news portals.
