Kia EV9
Opposites United
Dark or light, hard or soft, digital or analogue – the simplicity found in opposition is a refreshing change in the face of an increasingly complex reality. Kia is embracing a different approach to the design of its vehicles by exploring the creative potential of these contrasts, and establishing it as a design maxim: “Opposites United”. When designing the EV9, the designers celebrated this play with contrasts to achieve unexpected creative results. "The character of the EV9 epitomizes this philosophy with a bold, upright, authentic typology," says Karim Habib, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design, explaining the underlying concept. "The combination of sleek, sculptural shapes and strong, confident geometry make the EV9 a decidedly contemporary, composed SUV.” Despite the aforementioned upright stance, emphasized by the vertical headlights, the SUV impresses with its high aerodynamic efficiency, achieved amongst other things, by its tapered rear end, smooth flat underbody, and the beveled corners of the front and rear bumpers, allowing the airflow to virtually roll of the vehicle’s surface.
Kia’s EV9 is the first 3-row, dedicated EV family SUV, and fuses the innovative use of space, technology, and design, providing its users with instinctive experiences and excellent comfort for all occupants. A strong and confident character with a bold, upright typology; the sleek sculptural shapes with assertive geometry, together with the wide rear and track make the EV9 a capable, contemporary and serene SUV. Its boxy silhouette reflects the spacious interior within; the long wheelbase and flat EV architecture create a spacious, light, and airy cabin. The minimalist interior is achieved through clean surfaces and volumes, and reducing clutter by keeping only the essential physical buttons; while the second-row seats are able to swivel 180 degrees, allowing passenger interaction with those sitting in the third-row, enabling a greater level of human connection. "The EV9 has a very strong visual character: it looks very contemporary, while the exterior design is also characterized by strong classic lines," said the jury. "It also impresses as a clever solution to the problem of creating a vehicle with seven seats that is both progressive and familiar. The EV9 exudes confidence, combined with a simplicity that works really well."
