Exhibition on Taiwanese and international Red Dot winners show “Taiwan’s decisive role in the world of design”
The Red Dot Award presents an outstanding selection: Chosen by a prominent jury out of nearly 5,000 products from 56 countries, only 1.6 % received the highest single award "Red Dot: Best of the Best". 36 of them are on show in the newest Red Dot exhibition “World’s Best Product Design 2015/2016 - Taiwanese and international winners of the Red Dot Award”.
In the Red Dot Design Award, Taiwan is constantly among the top 5 winner countries. One of the missions of Red Dot is to communicate such country-specific success. Apart from exhibiting international top products, the Red Dot Design Museum Taipei pays tribute to this: In “World’s Best Product Design 2015/2016 - Taiwanese and international winners of the Red Dot Award”, a total of 63 Red Dot-awarded products from Taiwan will be presented.
Red Dot founder and CEO Professor Dr. Zec, who opened the exhibition on 2 December 2015, explains: “Taiwan is playing a decisive role in the world of design. Our task is to present well-known global players with their latest achievements as well as the hidden champions of product excellence. Both are displayed in the Red Dot Design Museum Taipei. These international top-achievements and many innovations from Taiwan are going to fascinate every fan of awarded technology and lifestyle solutions.”
Three Taiwanese winners on display in this newest Red Dot exhibition are even awarded a Red Dot: Best of the Best in 2015: The China Airlines Premium Business Class interior, the backpack Pháin and glasses called “Bamboo Eyewear” - a remarkable mixture and competition outcome given the fact that Taiwan normally is connected to world-class IT products. But the Red Dot jury is privy to varied high-quality products regularly entered by Taiwanese designers and companies.
Showing Taiwanese achievements in Taipei is one thing. Another is to demonstrate the whole range of Taiwanese proficiency outside the island. Thanks to the Taiwan Design Center (TDC), Red Dot recently hosted and co-organised four exhibitions with award-winning products from Taiwan in Europe: The showings entitled “Formosa Forms” were on display in Essen, Munich (both Germany), Vienna (Austria) and Paris (France). They attracted tens of Thousands of design fans and business people in 2014 and 2015. The exhibitions staged awarded Taiwanese design in the wake of Taipei’s celebrations as “World Design Capital 2016”, a title once initiated by Professor Dr. Peter Zec.
