Valentine’s Fairytale
This online film promotes the Valentine’s Day offer by car rental company Sixt. The goal was to make the film stand out among the overly sentimental and story-heavy valentine’s day commercials. Therefore, “Valentine’s Fairytale” is a love story gone wrong, featuring the provoking humour that Sixt is known for. It tells the tale of an elderly woman who decides to revisit her old lover after finding box full of old photos. She sets out on a road trip in a rental car and, over the course of her romantic journey, keeps revisiting places and moments from her past. However, what she is heading towards is not the expected happy ending, but rather a sobering twist. Accompanied by elegiac music that gradually builds up tension, she finally reaches her destination, where she meets an elderly man, Tom. He seems to recognise her but proceeds to calls her by a wrong name. The commercial ends with the promise that, although the company is no expert in romance, at least they do remember the names of women for Valentine’s Day and offer everyone discounts on rental cars – even Toms.
심사평
The commercial captivates viewers from the first moment with a beautifully narrated, romantic story. The way it makes the film culminate in the completely unexpected has been excellently implemented. The punch line really hits – and it is ingeniously linked to the company’s Valentine’s Day offer. The film gives proof, once again, of how creatively the provocative humour, for which Sixt advertising is known, can be conveyed.
