Lingua Digitalis
With a global distribution not only through apps, pictograms are experiencing a breakthrough as a language that is understood all over the world. Lingua Digitalis is a concept that documents this transformation in a book, an iPad app, a web portal and on posters, compiling graphically distinctive and simply designed icons and pictograms. The book illustrates the development of logos in a digital context and, using more than a thousand examples, explains how they opened up different platforms. The iPad app offers a number of fun features, hundreds of royalty-free icons and a workshop with interactive lessons, while the web portal provides an overview of the books, the app and the icon sets. The highlight of the website is the Lingua icon design tool, which gives visitors the opportunity to express themselves by choosing from more than 600 individual elements, storing these icons and sharing them on all the usual social networks.
Statement by the jury
»Lingua Digitalis incorporates a highly interesting concept for global communication beyond words. Compiled to express a multifaceted variety of content, the pictograms are marked by a contemporary, distinctive design and, as a tool to create language, represent a novel and very fresh approach.«
