Ceremony
The stop-motion film “Ceremony” presents the belief that the dead can find eternal peace only with the blessings of the living. The plot is set in a no-man’s land between life and death, where an old man is wandering, lost. The backdrop is one of mountains made of artfully folded joss paper, the golden shimmer of which creates a mysterious atmosphere, while red spider lilies grow from the ground. Both the paper and the lilies are traditionally associated with death. The moment the old man hears his grandchild’s loving words of farewell, the flowers turn a pure white and the dead man can rest in peace.
