4K LCD TV
BRAVIA XR™ X95L Series
Maximum Minimalist
At the beginning of its history, television had a clear mission: It was to be a cinema for the home. Today, televisions are networked, interactive and multifunctional – more and more functions are being integrated into the devices. Many manufacturers counter this technical complexity with the simplest possible design. The new BRAVIA XR X95L Series model, a high-end 4K LCD TV, takes design reduction to the extreme, with the aim of creating a particularly immersive TV experience by eliminating all distracting elements. The result is a TV whose screen is framed only by an ultra-thin aluminium bezel. Even the feet, which are much smaller than those of previous BRAVIA generations, have been optimised for maximum minimalism. Towards the front, the two feet are at 90 degrees to the screen and flush with the side frame. They are so narrow that they can only be perceived as lines. In addition, the very lateral positioning avoids reflections of the feet on the screen. The jury was impressed: “The front design of the new BRAVIA XR X95L Series is a lesson in what ‘reduction to the essentials’ means. There really is nothing unnecessary. Everything one sees is necessary to make the device perfect and ensures that image, screen and frame visually merge into one.” They also praised the design of the stand feet, noting in particular the detail that the two feet bend inwards at a 35-degree angle on the back, which has the effect that they are only visible in the direct side or rear view of the TV. The back of the TV also caught the jury’s eye in another way: It is very tidy and designed with a visually appealing grid structure that integrates – and at the same time hides – various functions in an equally aesthetic and clever way. For example, there is an area where the grid dimensions have been adapted to the functionality of a subwoofer so that the sound can be emitted to the rear. In addition, the grid integrates small air intake and exhaust holes to cool the circuit board efficiently, which in turn improves the TV’s image processing performance.
