Exhibition Design
Wilhelm and Alexander von Humboldt
To illustrate the revolutionary thinking of the brothers Wilhelm and Alexander von Humboldt regarding the social and scientific conditions of their time, the design of this exhibition at the German Historical Museum (DHM) in Berlin, Germany, was inspired by the aesthetics of “Daguerre’s Diorama”. A historically revolutionary medium at the time, the diorama was characterised by translucent, shifting lighting. Freely interpreted and spatially staged, it “illuminates” the historical framework of the Humboldt brothers, while iconic images from Friedrich J. Bertuch’s “Picture Book for Children” reflect the zeitgeist.
