User Interface Design
KIEFEL – HMI for packaging machines
KIEFEL is an international manufacturer of machines and tools for processing plastics. The new human-machine interface (HMI) for its packaging machines is based on self-explanatory illustrations and animations. For example, clear messages and status displays not only help monitoring the production process, they also assist in adding material in time and keeping the machine running continuously. Intelligent diagrams, clear animations and vivid illustrations reduce the complexity and a sophisticated colour and form guide system ensures correct assignment of parameters, components and their movement curves – even for people with poor colour vision. An ergonomically designed sidebar provides for short operating paths and maximum space at screen height. The modular machine visualisation facilitates easy navigation and clear status display, and like the modular expander controls, it ensures the efficient and economical adaptation of the HMI to any equipment variant.
Begründung der Jury
The new user interface design for the automated KIEFEL packaging machines is an excellent example of how design and technology can be combined intelligently for the purpose of achieving not only higher performance and effectiveness but also higher ease of use for the operator. The well-thought-out design ensures an almost intuitive control of the system and a quick understanding of its functions.
