Poster Series
59th Thessaloniki International Film Festival
The design of this poster series for the 59th Thessaloniki International Film Festival in Greece focussed on celebrating celluloid camera film material as the “small wonder” of the film industry. Targeted at a cinephile audience in Europe, the aim was to make clear how this humble and unadorned item holds the essence of filmmaking and storytelling by illustrating that the key medium of celluloid roll film captures in its frames countless emotions, stories, real and imaginative worlds, all of which come to life through motion. The design visualises this through unrolling and wildly superposed film reels. Seemingly dancing and celebrating cinema like festive ribbons, the unrolling film reels aim at conveying the message that film has the power to unveil hidden images. The posters were published both digitally and physically and were displayed in various places in the city of Thessaloniki such as public spaces, cinemas, theatres, cafes and other popular locations.
Begründung der Jury
Designed for the 59th Thessaloniki International Film Festival, this series of posters is a wonderful example of a successful blend of digital expression and digital graphic design in poster design. The use of modern 3D techniques enhances their message and creates an evocative aesthetic. In their role as cultural posters, they visualise the essence of filmmaking.
